Songwriter // Producer

E.M.Briar is a DIY electronic songwriter and music producer based in Manchester.

She seeks beats in sounds found anywhere from the legs of insects to noises of trains and combines them with synths and vocal harmonies.  E.M.Briar began as a lyricist and her words continue to be at the centre of her songwriting process and can be heard in the songs.

She has been played through BBC Introducing and on 6 Music where Tom Robinson described her song, Parity, as “unsettling”.

It all began in 2012 when E.M.Briar woke up with an idea: MAKE MUSIC // TRAVEL // WRITE ABOUT IT.  Briar has written a Medium article about it  here and listen to the resulting DIY EP here:

After returning from her travels, E.M.Briar began to DJ.  The result is that she has become a musical magpie: finding and collecting sounds in songs that grab her attention.

Re-discovering tracks she’s known for years and finding new music, she loops, layers and loves them until she hears a way to weave them together.  Standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before, Briar’s music collection and selections are from diverse backgrounds.

The influences that stand out in her sets are classic R&B and Hip Hop, alternative/indie electronic music and those artists who have more recently managed to fuse elements of these great genres together.  You may also catch her playing classic UK Garage.
